Amanda (Milly) Norris

Owner of Curious Roots

I launched Curious Roots in August 2018 after 20 years as a primary school teacher.  I have always believed in a more holistic education.  Forest Schools and teaching arts and crafts skills combines all the elements of life that I love. Whether it is exploring the outdoors or learning key skills through arts and crafts, Curious Roots holiday club allows children to learn through imagination, collaboration and reflection, all whilst having fun!

Frequently Asked Questions

What are my credentials?

I have achieved full Ofsted compliance - Jan 2023

I am a fully qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader.

I am Ofsted registered.

I have been a primary school teacher for 20 years with many of those years as a Deputy Headteacher.

I have the highest level of DBS check.

I am a fully qualified as a paediatric and outdoor first-aider.

I am fully insured with Birnbeck Insurance.

I have accounts with multiple childcare voucher schemes, please just ask.

What age do you start from?

I take children from age 4 for the full day holiday club.

I also run a toddler group for Under 5's.

How is the day spent?

We spend all day on the reserve, exploring, building, scavenging, creating, cooking on a campfire and much more.

We will be outside in any weather with the exception of a windy day where it would not be safe to be in the woodland.  I will either choose an alternative date, run an arts and crafts day in the local village hall or offer a refund.

Where are you located?

Ufton Fields Nature Reserve, Ufton CV33 9PU and/or Ufton Fields Village Hall, CV33 9PA

Do I need to bring lunch?

Yes please.  I provide snacks and drinks, so please let me know on the booking form if there are any allergies.

Do I need to pack a spare change of clothes?

Yes please.  The reserve can be muddy and an occasional wild wee has been needed!

Please pack everything in a rucksack as this is easier for your child to carry.

Who else is there?

If I have a large number of children, I have some volunteers that come and help.  They are also DBS'd and mostly teachers or teaching assistants.
